Superannuation Choice
New rules are starting on 1 July 2005 that require employers to let most of their employees choose which superannuation fund they want the employer to pay their superannuation to.
The new rules can be complicated as:
- You need to know which of your employees it applies to.
- There is a form that you must give to all employees who qualify.
- You need to decide on a superannuation fund to pay the superannuation to if the employees do not make a choice. There are rules about which funds you can decide on.
You must give your employees the new form even if you already allow them to choose which fund their superannuation is paid to.
It is important that you follow the new rules as the Tax Office can apply penalties if you do not.
The Tax Office will shortly be sending you a kit that explains the new rules.
